Howe Park Shooting Leaves 4 Shot in the Arden-Arcade Section of Sacramento County

Officials in Sacramento County are investigating a violent incident that unfolded Saturday night April 18 at Howe Park in Sacramento just as authorities were shutting down an unauthorized event of hundreds of attendees.

What Led to the Howe Community Park shooting 2026 Shooting

Sacramento County law enforcement first arrived at Howe Park at approximately 6:30 Saturday evening after learning of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. Shortly after, a second call came in mentioning an alleged brawl taking place at Howe Park.

Aerial units searched from above but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. Nevertheless, deputies found that hundreds of people had assembled at the park without authorization.

How the Shooting Unfolded

Responding units started clearing the unauthorized gathering by positioning themselves around the crowd and issuing commands over loudspeakers ordering the hundreds present to disperse at once. Roughly 15 minutes were given for individuals to vacate.

It was during this dispersal that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition rang out. Gunfire sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies immediately began finding those who had been shot.

Four Victims Hospitalized

Altogether, four gunshot victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. All four — made up of one woman and three men all reportedly in their early to late twenties — were airlifted or driven to nearby hospitals. Medical teams noted that two victims were in serious condition, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one had injuries classified as minor. In a positive development, all four were in stable condition.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District assisted at the location and helped care for the four victims before they were taken to the hospital.

What Investigators Found

The primary shooting scene was confirmed to have taken place adjacent to the Cottage Way corridor near the Home Depot store located at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Crime scene investigators found additional spent rounds scattered along Cottage Way. Round impacts were discovered in the wrought iron perimeter fencing near the Home Depot. These findings indicated that one of the gunmen had been sending rounds south from along Cottage Way in the direction of the Home Depot building and parking lot. The store itself was locked down for a period of time. Crime scene personnel worked tirelessly for hours.

Suspect Information

Details gathered over scanner radio traffic revealed that a Kia connected to the shooting had been detained in the Solano County area. Four individuals were stopped and detained. Deputies were dispatched to Solano County to collect the individuals for questioning. Video that was reviewed established that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
